Cold Turkey = gives up a habit or addiction all at once.
เลิกนิสัย หรือ เลิกติด อะไรบางอย่างแบบทันทีทันใด (หักดิบ)
เช่น เลิกสูบบุหรี่ – Quit smoking cold turkey
ว่ากันว่า ที่มาของคำนี้การเสิร์ฟเมนู cold turkey
ซึ่งเป็นเมนูที่แทบจะไม่ต้องเตรียมอะไรเลย หรือ เตรียมน้อยมากๆ
“To quit like cold turkey” would be to quit in the same way a cold turkey is served, instantly just as you are without preparation.

ตัวอย่าง 1
ถ้าเราช่วยใคร (ทั้งที่รู้จัก หรือไม่รู้จัก) ทำบางสิ่ง บางอย่าง
เค้าขอบคุณเรา เราก็จะตอบไปว่า “Your welcome”
ถ้าสนิทๆ หน่อย ก็จะใช้คำว่า “No problem” ก็ได้
ตัวอย่าง 2
เวลาที่เราขอให้เค้าทำอะไรให้ เช่น ขอข้อมูล หรือถามอะไรก็ตาม
เค้ามักจะใช้สำนวนติดปากว่า “no worries” จะได้ยินบ่อยมาก ใช้ได้แทบทุกสถานการณ์
ส่วน you’re welcome นั้นค่อนข้างเป็นทางการไปสักนิด เหมือน “my pleasure”
ตัวอย่าง 3
คุณให้สละที่นั่งให้แก่ผู้สูงอายุ บนรถรางลอยฟ้า แล้วเขาพูดว่า “Thank you for the seat.”
คุณก็พูดกลับไปว่า “Not at all.” ไม่เป็นไร มิได้หรือในบางกรณีที่เราทำอะไรผิด หรือว่าทำให้ผู้อื่นเดือดร้อนนิดหน่อย
เช่นทำกาแฟหกกระเซ็นไปโดนผู้อื่น แต่ไม่มาก หรือเราเดินไปชนผู้อื่น
เราก็จะพูดว่า I am so sorry.
เขาก็อาจจะตอบกลับมาว่า Not at all ได้เช่นกัน
–> สังเกตว่า กลุ่มนี้ใช้ ตอบรับคำขอบคุณ
“Never mind / “That’s alright” / “You’re alright”
ตัวอย่าง
ถ้าเราเดินไปยืนขวางทางเค้า พอเรารู้ เราขอโทษ
เค้าอาจจะตอบว่า “ever mind” หรือ “That ’s alright” ก็ได้
หรือบางทีเค้าอาจจะตอบว่า “You ‘re alright”
—> สังเกตว่า กลุ่มนี้ใช้ ตอบรับคำขอโทษ
“That’s ok” / “That’s fine” / “It’s not a big deal”
ตัวอย่าง
ถ้ามีคนมาขอต่อรองว่า “ฉันขอใช้พาสปอร์ต เเทนบัตรประชาชน ได้หรือไม่”
เราตอบว่าได้ ไม่มีปัญหา ไม่เป็นไรมันใช้เเทนกันได้ เราก็จะตอบไปว่า
That ’s ok หรือ That’s fine
หรือบางทีก็ It’s not a big deal ใช้ได้ไม่เป็นไร

ตบหลังตัวเอง (เหมือนตอนเราทำอะไรสำเร็จมีคนมาตบหลัง แล้วบอกว่า Well done!)
อันนี้ตบหลังตัวเอง แทน ไม่ต้องให้ใครมาตบ
คือ ในทำนอง self congratulations นั่นเอง
zip out to do something fun
= ออกไปฉลองโลด
ใช้ zip อย่างนี้หมายถึง ไป/เคลื่อนไหว อย่างรวดเร็ว
ตัวอย่าง

คราวนี้ผมมาเสนอเรื่องคำว่า เพื่อน ที่วัยรุ่นอเมริกันใช้เรียกเพื่อนกัน
แต่ส่วนมากผมเห็นแต่เด็กวันรุ่นผู้ชายใช้มากกว่านะครับ ไม่เห็นผู้หญิงใช้เท่าไหร่
คงเคยได้ยินมาบ่อยๆใช่มั๊ยครับ เวลาเด็ก Hip Hop เค้าทักกัน What’s up!? man! นั่นแหละ วอซซับๆ เพี้ยนๆ ก็กลายเป็น เฮ้ ! วัดเสมียน แล้วทำไมต้องมีคำว่า Man! ด้วยหละ ความจริงมันก็เหมือนคำว่า “ว่าไง! เพื่อน!” นั้นแหละครับ แต่นอกจากคำนี้ ยังมีคำแสลงอีกหลายคำที่เค้านิยมใช้กันนอกจากคำว่า Friend
แต่คำพวกนี้ ใช้กันเฉพาะเพื่อนสนิทนะครับ อย่าเอาไปใช้กับคนอื่นละเพราะมันไม่สุภาพครับ
วันนี้ ภาษาปะกิดขอเสนอคำเกี่ยวกับเพื่อน ดังนี้ :-
Friend วู๊ยย คำนี้ใช้แล้วไม่ค่อยแนวเท่าไหร่ เช้ยยยเชยครับ
Dude ออกเสียงว่า ดู๊ด เสียงสูงๆนะ อย่าเป็นดูดละ คำนี้ได้ยินบ่อยสุดๆ ฮิทมาก ความจริงแปลว่าผู้ชาย แต่เรียกเพื่อนก็เท่
Man ได้ยินจนเบื่อแล้ว เรียกเฉพาะผู้ชายนะครับ
Bud , Buddy เคยเล่นกันใช่มั๊ยละเกมบัดดี้ๆ มันก็แปลว่าเพื่อนครับ ได้ยินบ่อยเช่นกัน
Pal ออกเสียงว่า พาวล นี่ก็บ่อยครับ
Partner อันนี้แปลว่าคู่หู หรือ หุ้นส่วน หรือไว้เรียกคู่ซี้ที่ทำงานด้วยก็ได้ครับ เคยเห็นหนังตำรวจมั๊ยละ เค้าจะเป็นคู่ๆ
Mate คำนี้ได้ยินคนจากอังกฤษพูดมากกว่านะครับ แต่ก็ยังพอได้ยินบ้างแต่อเมริกันไม่พูดกัน เพราะฟังดูมันเป็นคำสลวยไพเราะกว่าเมกันกว่าเยอะ
Guys หรือ Girls (gals) คำนี้ไว้เรียกเป็นกลุ่มเลยครับ ผู้ชายก็ guy (แต่บางทีก็รวมผู้หญิงด้วย) ผู้หญิงก็ girls
Chum คำนี้ผมไม่เคยเห็นคนใช้นะครับความจริง
Bro อันนี้ได้ยินบ่อยมากๆ อ่านว่า โบร ย่อมาจาก brother คือพี่น้องผู้ชาย
Playmate อันนี้ก็ไม่ได้ยินเท่าไหร่ครับ
Amigo คำนี้ผมชอบครับ มาจากภาษาสเปนแต่คนอเมริกันรู้จักกันดี อ่านว่า อะมี้-โก้ แปลว่าเพื่อนเลยครับ ได้ยินเยอะที่อเมริกา
Folks คำนี้นิยมใช้กันเยอะเหมือนกันที่อเมริกา ไม่ต้องวัยรุ่นๆก็ได้ครับ ความจริงมันแปลว่า พ่อแม่ ด้วยก็ได้
Fellow คำนี้ก็ใช้ได้ แบบไหนก็ได้
Fellas คำนี้แน๊วววแนวครับก็มาจากคำว่า Fellow นะแหละใช้แล้วฟังแล้วโคตรเท่ห์เลย เหมือนเด็กฮิป
ใครรู้จักคำไหน อีกบ้างก็เขียนบอกเพิ่มหน่อยนะครับ
คราวนี้ เราจะได้ทำตัวดูเป็นเด็กแนว วัยรุ่นฝรั่ง ไปทักเพื่อนแบบเท่ห์ๆได้แล้ว
